What is going on with your baby during week 37?

Your baby is acquiring important antibodies from you that will protect the vulnerable newborn from life-threatening diseases, when it enters into this world. If you choose to breastfeed, you will be topping up on the immunities after birth. Your baby receives 'natural immunization' for another six months after its birth with breast milk. Doctors will advise that you have your baby immunized starting at age two months. Your baby weighs almost 6.5lb (3kg) and is about 21in (47cm) long or 35cm (14 in) from crown to rump.

What is going on with you during week 37?

Your uterus may stay the same size as a week or two ago. Your weight gain should be as high as it will go - 20-30lb or 9-13.5kg. Your tendency to bump into things is on the rise; this is because you have either misjudged your body shape or your center of gravity has altered throwing you easily off your sense of balance. This is temporary and you will regain your old sense of balance and coordination after your baby has been born.

What is going on with your head during week 37?

You are going to wonder if you are doing the right thing by having this baby, from time to time. And now that the countdown has begun, these thoughts can be pretty intense. It is normal to have doubts about parenting during the weeks leading up to the birth (and for many years thereafter). One way of looking at it is that you are going to make a committed parent since you are putting so much thought into the whole act. Having a child or family is irreversible and a very big change, so don't be so hard on yourself for carrying doubts in your mind.
