What is going on with your baby during week 35?

Your baby now weighs about 5.5lb (2.5kg). Full length is about 20in (45cm) long or crown to rump length is 33cm (13¼ in). Now that you are able to see baby's movements, you may enjoy doing just that when baby moves from side to side. You can tell which side baby is by comparing both sides of your belly. At some point toward now, your baby may turn into the final birthing position, usually head down. Less than 5% of babies are 'breech' that is with their legs or bottoms down. Doctors advise C-section for such cases as the safest way to deliver the baby and avoid fetal distress.

What is going on with you during week 35?

By this week your weight gain should be between 20 & 29lb (9-13kg) as you come closer to delivery. You and your partner become increasingly anxious about the upcoming event. There is an increase in mood swings for no apparent cause, an increase in irritability. Insignificant and unimportant thoughts may cloud your mind. Health concerns about baby, yourself also rise; you wonder about labor pains, about the whole delivery process. Along with this your growing size is becoming more of an impediment; you are no longer able to do many things. This makes you more uncomfortable and dependant. To top that, your inability to sleep is increasing your agitation as well. All these factors can work towards making your emotions swing wildly from highs to lows.

Some couples plan their child's name much before hand while others continue to debate over popular names after the birth of their baby. If you are still name hunting here are some guidelines to help you further shorten your list:

• Think long term. Resist the temptation to go with a trendy name that will sound dated before your baby cuts her first tooth

• Steer clear of names that sound too babyish. You will want to choose a name that will work for your baby throughout her entire life

• Check out the initials you will be saddling your kid with (e.g. if the initials spell 'RAT”, you are buying trouble, don't you think!)

• Keep the spelling simple. Your child's teachers, friends and employers will thank you for it

• Only consider naming your baby after a friend or relative if you feel confident that person is going to be a part of your life for a long time
