What is going on with your baby during week 28?  


Your baby's lungs are starting to produce surfactant, a detergent-like substance that prevents the lungs from closing in and instead allows for expansion to take in air. This increases baby's odds at surviving if born early. While babies are able to more than survive when born weeks early. The odds to do better outside the womb increases, when they inhabitate the womb longer. Your baby approximates at 14-16 inches (35cm) with full length being 15¾ in (35cm). Baby is about 2.5 pounds (1.1kg) in weight. The brain which was smooth up till now has grooves and is indented on the surface. Hair on the head is longer and body is filling out.

What is going on with you during week 28?
 
You may have gained about 17-24 pounds (7.7-10.8 kg). Your uterus will feel hard and you may even experience Braxton hicks (simulated contractions). Along with discomforts of the 1st and 2nd trimester, you are likely to experience heartburn and indigestion more frequently because of your digestive organs having to share room with your growing uterus and baby.

Many thoughts, many questions occupy your mind these days, making you wonder if this is normal or if that is right.
