What is going on with your baby during week 26?

Your baby now acquires a special layer of fat which acts as an insulator, keeping baby warm in the weeks after birth. This fat known as 'brown fat' because of its color is found at the neck area, around the kidneys and behind the breastbone. It is a special kind of fat meant to keep baby warm and is found in both newborn babies and hibernating animals. Baby's weight is about 2 pounds (900g) and measures at 9¼ inches (23cm).

What is going on with you during week 26?

You will find yourself growing nearly half an inch (1cm) each week from now on. With a healthy diet, your weight gain is between 16 and 22 pounds (7.2-9.9kg). Now that you bigger, back pain, leg cramps and headaches are your common buddies. Two- thirds of the pregnancy is behind you; you are approaching the end of the middle trimester. You belly button may pop now if it hasn't already. After delivery and a shrunk uterus, your belly button will revert to its usual position but you may find it slightly stretched and less taut than before.

What is going on with your head during week 26?

You may think the worse is over since the first trimester is over but think again. The second trimester can continue to be a trying period for some, depending on what is going on with you in your life. You could be feeling joyous one moment and weepy the next. While mood swings are the mainstay of pregnancy, there is reason to worry if your mood swings are extreme or uncontrollable and if they interfere with your pregnancy journey.
