What is going on with your baby during week 23?

By now your baby weighs almost 1 pound (455g) and is about 8 inches long (20cm). Baby is now about the size of a small doll. Baby's eyes are large and bulging at this stage; this is because the face is not filled up enough. As baby starts to gain some fat on the body and face, the look will assume a more infant appearance. What is amazing is although you are more than halfway through the journey; baby presently only weighs about a pound.

What is going on with you during week 23?

You will be measured at every visit to the clinic. Your doctor is monitoring your weight gain and fetal growth. All women and babies grow at different rates; what is important is that there is visible continuous growth and change. Change in baby's size means change in amniotic level and placenta. You may go through sharp pains at the sides of your abdomen due to stretching of the uterine muscles, which resemble pains you get after running some distance. Not knowing the cause can be upsetting and worrying. Rest assured it is normal to experience such pains during pregnancy.

What is going on with your head during week 23?

You may feel a strong bond with fellow pregnant women. You feel a part of an institution or association which consists of pregnant women only with their pregnancy problems and joys. This bond may intensify for most of you after having the baby as well. Your sense of affinity grows with other new moms. You feel you can relate to baby problems other mothers go through now that you are a mom yourself. Sometimes deep friendships form on grounds of having something in common - your babies.
